However, despite our long experience in leading groups, please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that is very hard to predict, hence sightings cannot be guaranteed.

We tour the renowned Golden Circle. Our first stop is Thingvellir where the forces of the Great Atlantic Rift are clearly visible. This is where the North American and European tectonic plates drift apart at a rate of 2-6 cm per year. Thingvellir is also the place where the ancient Icelandic parliament was established in 930. Then we head for the famous Geysir hot spring area, where Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes.
We also visit the Gullfoss (Golden) waterfall. After visiting these world famous sights we visit a local horse stable and a greenhouse. Then we drive through the landscapes of South Iceland we will visit the new lava centre in Hvolsvöllur . We then drive to our accommodation near the town of Vik, where we will stay for 2 nights at Hotel Katla. If weather permits we head for a Northern Lights hunt, the guide chooses the night with better prospects.
We head east, along the southern shore to the unique Jökulsarlon Glacier lagoon. The lagoon developed around 60 years ago with continuing process of calving and falling of icebergs from the glacier tongue Breidamerkurjökull. Breidamerkurjökull is part Vatnajökull glacier. These icebergs are seen in two shades: One type in milky white, while the other type is in bright blue colour. This being caused by interplay of light and ice crystals.
The lagoon is filled with fishes that drift in from the sea along with the tides. Seals gather in large numbers at the mouth of the lagoon to catch the fish during the winter. On the way back to Vik we also visit Skaftafell national park which is part of Vatnajökull national park. It contains some of the most prized natural sights of the country.
Driving along the southern coast we encounter highlights such as the waterfalls Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss as well as the glaciers and volcanoes of Myrdalsjökull/Katla and Eyjafjallajökull. The final highlight before getting back to Reykjavik is the spectacular Blue Lagoon. You have a choice of viewing the lagoon or enjoy soaking in the mineral rich water with its fine silica mud. In the late afternoon we arrive in Reykjavik, where we will stay at Hotel Klettur
