Háskólabíó

Háskólabíó is a Cinema based next to the University of Iceland. The name translates to The University Cinema and opened in 1961 and also serves as lecture halls for the university. The building was designed by Gunnlaugur Halldórsson and Guðmundur Kr. Kristinsson and has the shape of an Accordion. It has 5 screening and can host 817 guests at once. Today the main "old" screening hall is not used for movie screening but mostly for conferences, events and occasionally concerts. The main hall hosted the Icelandic Philharmonia until the Harpa concert hall come to light.
