Some people might think that Icelanders don’t eat a lot of ice cream since the weather isn’t always that great. Well, they are wrong. Icelanders love ice cream, and there are lots of ice cream stores in Reykjavík. Most of them have what Icelanders know as regular soft serve ice cream with dips and toppings, but recently people are getting more inventive, so quirky ice cream stores are popping up everywhere. We decided to tell you about what we think are the top 3 most unique ice cream places in Reykjavík:
Skúbb is a relatively new ice cream place located at Laugarásvegur 1, very close to the Laugardalslaug swimming pool and Laugardalur campsite. Their ice cream is homemade and the waffle cones alone are enough reason to visit. The cones have a wonderful, caramelized flavour that you really look forward to tasting when you’ve finished the delicious ice cream. For those who aren’t fans of waffle cones, Skúbb can make any flavour into milkshakes with organic milk from Bíóbú.
Watch your ice cream being made right in front of you with liquid nitrogen! Located in Mathöll Hlemmur in downtown Reykjavík, Ísleifur heppni only uses the best available ingredients for their ice cream. Not only is their regular ice cream delicious, but they have cool dishes like liquorish Crème brûlée and a vegan option.
If you’re lactose intolerant, or just not a fan of lactose, you should visit Arna ís- og kaffibar in Eiðistorg. It’s a coffee shop and ice cream place, and everything they serve is lactose-free. They have lots of flavours to choose from and the coffee shop also serves lactose-free baked goods and other dishes. The lactose-free products come straight from Arna, a dairy production company in Bolungarvík.
